Puerto Vallarta Airport Renovations

Currently, the Puerto Vallarta airport’s layout is very inefficient due to the fact that dozens of flights arrive within hours. As a result, the airport has hundreds of travelers in the building at that time, which makes for long lines and delays. Passengers often have to wait extended periods of time to get through immigration, customs, and baggage claim. As experts predict that more and more visitors will arrive into Puerto Vallarta by plane in future years, the expansion of the airport will greatly improve their overall travel experience in Puerto Vallarta. It is estimated that the new terminal will cost 7 billion pesos, and they will be able to handle double the amount of arriving passengers once it is complete. They will be adding new boarding gates, which means less crowded areas with departure gates as well.

Puerto Vallarta Airport Renovations New Terminal

Next, the Puerto Vallarta airport renovations at the new terminal will add 68,000 square meters, which is an increase of 150% in total size of the building. As a result, the airport will be able to handle 10-12 million people each year. Also, they are adding 11-19 boarding gates along with 9-16 remote boarding gates. That way, arriving passengers will have more space to make their arrival more comfortable and enjoyable. Also, the Puerto Vallarta Airport renovations are going to redesign the customs and immigration process. For example, they are adding 58 documentation counters and 8-18 security filters, and they are increasing migration modules to 30. They are also adding the latest state-of-the-art technology for the luggage process, so all luggage can be scanned before people arrive at the airport, which means travelers won’t need to carry their luggage through customs.

Latin America’s First Zero Energy Airport Terminal

Lastly, the most exciting thing about the new terminal is it will be Latin America’s first Zero Energy Airport (NET Zero Certification). The airport will be able to help play their part in being environmentally friendly with the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and pollutants. This new technology is slated to be finished within 7 ½ years through various stages. They also plan to add solar panels to the roof which will lower energy cost by 40%. In addition, their plans include changes that will implement systems that will reuse 100% of the gray, blue, and black water in and out of the terminal. Likewise, overall water consumption at the airport will be reduced by approximately 35%.

The Puerto Vallarta airport renovations are exciting and another sign that the city will continue to be one of Mexico’s top destinations for years to come. Once the new terminal is completed there will be 68,000 square meters of added space, so you can expect new shops, restaurants, bars, and lounges, too. They are also adding new runways, streets, and control power. Are you ready to book a vacation to Puerto Vallarta?
